A Shape-Preserving Simplification Method for Urban Building Models

With the expansion of model scale and improvement accuracy, real-time rendering displaying 3D mesh models remain infeasible. To relieve such pressure, simplification methods have been proposed to reduce structural complexity while preserving appearance. This work introduces a shape-preserving method for urban building models. Compared traditional that only consider local geometric features, we also overall shapes avoid collapse with an increased rate. The works in four steps. First, filter yield planar structures sharp features. Second, detect regions. Third, simplify non-planar regions constrained by Finally, remap texture. Experiments show effectiveness this evaluating it on various comparing its performance original QEM algorithms. Furthermore, maintain better spatial consistency different levels detail (LOD) than methods.
